Hi Everyone
« on: December 02, 2004, 03:10:58 AM »

My name is Chris McKinley.  I live in Norman, Oklahoma and teach Baguazhang and Kali in Moore, OK.  I also have a background in military and LEO CQC instruction.  I've been recommending Hock to people for years, including sending some of my own students to attend his seminars, so when I saw this forum, I thought I'd pay my respects and join in on the discussion. :)

Hi Chris-

Welcome aboard! As you can see, the forum has lots of interested and lively members :D, so please feel free to weigh in with your thoughts / questions / concerns any time!

I also wanted to tell you that I love Norman, OK! My husband Mike and I shot a bunch of instructional DVDs for Century Martial Arts earlier this year and a big chunk of the series we did on women's everyday safety and self defense was shot on location all over Norman! We had a blast - everyone was really friendly and patient with us (holding up traffic, etc...). If you ever see the DVDs, I know you'll recognize exactly where we were!

Meredith,

That's great!  I'm over at Century about once a month or so, so I'll have to pick up your DVDs.  When I was an undergraduate at the University of Oklahoma here in Norman, I used to give seminars on women's safety & rape prevention on campus and also worked in the Safe Escort program for women needing to be on campus after dark.  I'll have to recommend your DVDs to the program director since the local scenario footage will help drive the message home more powerfully.  Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

De professor,

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the recommendation! Safe Escort programs and women's centers on campuses are EXACTLY the type of market we'd like to reach with that DVD series! Actually, we shot several DVD series, Chris, so let me point you in the right direction when you go to Century:

The 2-part series for women is called the "R-A-W Self Defense Series". The location footage I spoke of is featured mainly on Part 1 - "Awareness and Verbal Boundary Setting". (Part 2 - "Physical Self Defense Skills For A Worst Case Scenario" was shot predominantly on set at Century and features simple, gross motor movement-based defenses against common assaults).

We also did a 2-part series for martial artists looking to incorporate portions of our "Adrenal Stress Scenario Training" method into their existing curriculums called the "R-A-W Power Series".

Finally, we did a single title featuring everyday safety, boundary setting and simple self defense skills for kids age 7-12 called "I Am Not A Target!".

By the way, I'd love to hear more about the seminars you taught on rape prevention / women's safety! Please come over to the "Women's Self Defense" board and tell us about them!

Thanks again,
Meredith

Meredith, tell everyone again about your great DVDs on your self-defense forum too.

They are full of great information. And Meredith and Belzer are just great teachers.

Since 2004!
And I am just now seeing that that thread was started by ol' Chris McKinley, and I did not say hi to him!

A very belated hi Chris!
