USMC Combat Hunter
« on: March 01, 2008, 02:18:16 AM »

Jim H and others : I just saw on AFN news from Europe=Marine Corps has initiated a new program for pre deploying Marines=The clip is saw was aPolice officer giving them training-it has to  do  with tactics taken from actual hunting and ideas gained from police work=assists in getting the Marine to think like a hunter and find targets-eventually it will be taught to all Marines. It is called Combat Hunter-Check it out if you  can-whitewolf

Hock thanks-i run into some Marines at times over here in Kuwait-I get choked up because these guys are quiet-squared away- and professional at all times-I am proud to know that they are part of why America is number one-I am not taking anything away  from the other services-i just feel as though i still am wearing the globe and anchor-again thanks for passing on the info you found-i all ready knew you would-whitewolf

The program sounds like a return to Basics and teaching selcted Marines, hopefully the entire Infantry, how to use the skills of a Recon Marine and Sniper.
How to go back to Basic Patrol techniques and observation skills.

The Marine Corps began this Combat Hunter Program in 1997 and tried to incorporate more technology based uses combined with basic infantry and hunting skills.

My Brother had such, hunter, training in the Corps when he was in Force Recon in the late 70's.
I had such,survival/hunter, training in the Army in SF in the 80's.

If one saw the Movie "the Hunted" with Tommy Lee Jones and Benecio Del Torro one saw a piece of training similar to what used to be taught, aside from making wepaons, you learned survival and Hunter Killer skills.

The problems are that down the road the Corps will NOT ALLOW the men to become the Hunters, this is not the function of Hearts and Minds/Police Actions of present day conflicts.

Once the Enemy learns of the tactics they then reverse course, and use set up scenarios as bait and trap for the Hunters.
(Hammer and Anvil as it was called in Vietnam, let the enemy Hunter group think they are setting you up when you are setting them up to be caught in the reverse and killed off)
This was also seen in the movie the Hunted, when Del Torro turns the Tables on the trained stalkers huting him in the woods
and
It was seen in the First Rambo movie

If one has opportunity to actually watch and record the actions of the enemy, instead of being an observer and recorder trying to learn the tactics ,call in an airstrike and vaporize them.

It is a Good concept to return Marines to the Aggressive attitude Needed for Combat, where they Feel Like They are In Charge
but
When the rules of Engagemnet are set out as For Police Patrols the only thing this training will do is Hopefully allow them to see when they are being drawn in to a trap for an IED or Sniper nest.

Good Luck to them all, what ever keeps them alive is Good Training.

Here is some more on this subject. I work with a former Brit who was in Northen Irland and saw a lot of hell-when i told him of Cobat Hunters he said his unit had US Marines with them for some training in the same sanarios that are being taught at the Combat hunter village-it is set up the same way the Brits set their village up-they worked on behavioral patterns i.e. Garbage cans are set out on a tuesday-then one week trhey are out out on a wed and their was a ambush by the IRA-the cans were a signal to  stay indoors. In the USMC
The training now is mostly for squad leaders who pass the training on to the squad.

I am passing some of this on to  my napal guards and see how they comprhend what i  tell them-i am trying to get them to  think outside the box so to speak-hope it  works.

When one tries to learn the ways of the enemy and the signals  the enemy uses to warn the populace one should do so in secrecy.
When one tells the world that they are running a school to learn to observe, record and use the enemies actions and signals against them,to hunt them, the enemy will change tactics and set scenarios in motion to lure one in and take one out.

The Corps has used this Combat Hunter concept for 11 years now in varying degrees and Now that they are astually running the school on a regular basis they tell everyone in Memos on the internet and with shows on the TV.

I really do not know if the High ups who authorize this stuff released have a clue as to how to run Intel Gathering and employment of such Intel without risking troops lives.

Jim-I also have noticed that the higher ups in all the services (including USMC ) are jockeying for position so to speak-they are passing out info that should be best kept at the officers school in Quantico and at school of infantry on both  coasts- for example they are having a hell of a problem with the  new heavy armored HumV-investigations abound as to  who axcepted it for combat?? Also the armored vest ? The i  read about a COl wanted to  lighten the load they carry and their was flack over  that-Its scary-Dam i remember when i took my guys out to the vill for civ action  in Danang I was a SSGT and I called the shots as to equipment-Most times i went for soft cover-water-ammo-wpn -reolizing we were close to the air base I did not need to  take food for the men-point is that I did not have general X breathing dowwn my neck-today you got IG/reporters/UN/
Irag counterparts/other country troops/etc etc all over the god dam place-i dont thnik we get the real  word at all as to the real politics going on in our services.-Lastly if you get the stars and stripes and kept copies over a period of time one  could make a order  of battle  that would show units-time in country-where they are located and where they are being deployed to etc etc-its beyond me-whitewolf (el lobo blanco)
