The program sounds like a return to Basics and teaching selcted Marines, hopefully the entire Infantry, how to use the skills of a Recon Marine and Sniper.
How to go back to Basic Patrol techniques and observation skills.
The Marine Corps began this Combat Hunter Program in 1997 and tried to incorporate more technology based uses combined with basic infantry and hunting skills.
My Brother had such, hunter, training in the Corps when he was in Force Recon in the late 70's.
I had such,survival/hunter, training in the Army in SF in the 80's.
If one saw the Movie "the Hunted" with Tommy Lee Jones and Benecio Del Torro one saw a piece of training similar to what used to be taught, aside from making wepaons, you learned survival and Hunter Killer skills.
The problems are that down the road the Corps will NOT ALLOW the men to become the Hunters, this is not the function of Hearts and Minds/Police Actions of present day conflicts.
Once the Enemy learns of the tactics they then reverse course, and use set up scenarios as bait and trap for the Hunters.
(Hammer and Anvil as it was called in Vietnam, let the enemy Hunter group think they are setting you up when you are setting them up to be caught in the reverse and killed off)
This was also seen in the movie the Hunted, when Del Torro turns the Tables on the trained stalkers huting him in the woods
and
It was seen in the First Rambo movie
If one has opportunity to actually watch and record the actions of the enemy, instead of being an observer and recorder trying to learn the tactics ,call in an airstrike and vaporize them.
It is a Good concept to return Marines to the Aggressive attitude Needed for Combat, where they Feel Like They are In Charge
but
When the rules of Engagemnet are set out as For Police Patrols the only thing this training will do is Hopefully allow them to see when they are being drawn in to a trap for an IED or Sniper nest.
Good Luck to them all, what ever keeps them alive is Good Training.
