I have been reading about this for a couple of years, yet I never really understood. From everything I've been able to find Strider was honest about his service record and if memory serves me he lied about being a felon. I've read the allegations but it just doesn't make sense to me. Honestly I think the owners character should have a lot to do with who gets my business. This whole deal has just made me put off getting a couple of cold steel knives I want and I still can't afford the Strider I want. Man I hate it when people get whiny.

Cold Steel products are great, and they don't tear a big hole in your checkbook!  I don't give a shit about what the guy says, can he make a good product? 

Just like when I buy shit made in China...am I really supporting communism?  On the other hand, chances are the made in China stuff is half-ass quality! Maybe a bad example, but you get what I'm saying.  We end up buying shit from China anyway.  Don't get me wrong, buy American if you can...like Cold Steel!

Best Cold Steel products: SRK, Recon Scout, Bushman, SF shovel, Boar Spear!  Huuurah CS!

I like CS products and really could care less about problems the owner has with owners of other knife companies.  It is not like I know any of them in real life.  Most of the time there is some sort of controversy regarding CS, Thompson is the "bad guy" because people on knife forums love to bash Thompson and CS and do so any chance they get.


There is a problem about buying CS to buy American.  Their American-made knives (those in Carbon V) were subcontracted to Camillus and when Camillus closed down they could no longer get them made in the USA or in Carbon V.  Most of the Carbon V line switched to SK5 and were made in China until recently.  For some reason CS stopped making them in China and will probably move their production somewhere else.  The Recon Tanto and SRK were switched to AUS8 and are made in Japan.  Their higher-end stainless was always made in Japan, and lower-end stainless in Taiwan IIRC.

Yeah, Jap AUS8 is a great product though, love the SRK. Beside the Kabar, it is the only stainless I would pack.  I prefer carbon 1055 to 1095 depending on my task.  Any idea about the Recon Scout, heard they were discontinuing current model?  What a hunk of steel!

They will probably start making them when they find a new manufacturer, the Recon Scout and Trailmaster are popular knives so I doubt they'd just discontinue them.

My SRK is Carbon V but I have a few of their AUS8 knives and they are good quality.  My most used CS knife is a Carbon V Recon Tanto.

Whatcha got against camo underwear? I have several camo banana hammocks my wife goes crazy over (getting me out of! ).

Seriously, I have nothing but good stuff to say about CS products. I buy their factory seconds for use on my "warpost", and they're holding up great. I've used two G.I. Tantos and an SRK for the last couple of months for hacking and stabbing away at some landscape timbers. Haven't needed to resharpen them yet and they're still sending debris flying each time we train. Tough and inexpensive; wish I could say the same for all my training equipment.

I should add CS kukri machete to the list!  Cheaper than dirt, but hacks away until your hands are numb, and rarely needs heavy sharpening...all for under $20.

Yeah, I need to add a couple of those to my list. Next time I get a Special Projects catalog, I'll order some. They had a couple of other machetes I was interested in; I might get those as well. I bought some discount machetes not too long ago. They're a little on the flimsy side and I don't think they're going to hold up too well. Matter of fact, I'll go ahead and give them a workout tonight. It'll freak the guys out when I break out the big steel!

CS kukri machete, I use it to keep my property perimeter trail open, hacks as much as I can put out.  They do flex a little but this helps with reducing the force my wrist takes.  It just puts out!  For the price, weight and toughness, you get a lot of all-purpose tool!

Unfortunately, no machete hacking took place last night. After removing the wrapper from my "bargain" machetes, I found there was no edge to be had! 
So, we settled for doing Hock's 12 angle drill, forwards and backward across the yard. Then, it was back to hacking the warposts with our regular tools of destruction.
