Management at TRS said that Clugston was very diffilcult to work with, but his original, shallow, sales pitch/scheme (some kind of legionarrie/Gladiator connection) was very successful in the very beginning. THUS...they simply HAD to keep using him. (not unlike another semi-famous, head-butter, many know.)

Clugston called them one time to announce something like that he would henceforth, only speak and write in Greek (or Roman?), to grow closer to ancient warriors. That lasted about three days. (He didn't know the languages.)

Didn't he try to link the popular JKD in the sales pitch/mix also? Which was also the fad, trying to ssstttrrreeetttccchhh JKD into any and all sales pitches.

Due to the establishment of TRS (who sell mostly golf and muscle-building movies) these old TRS DVDs are out there and with related name recognition, will probably always be around for sale somewhere, long after the time-sensitive fad of the star has faded away.

My initial thoughts:
1-Whats up with him?
2-When he does demos of tactics is the atttackee just going along with the movement?
3-why does he critize other styles? is it justified?
Ill just go along and watch and make decesion later on

I bought some Clugston stuff years ago in a TRS fire sale. The guy is a cartoon character. Typical ravings about how traditional MA will get you killed blah-blah...and then proceeds to show stuff I learned in good ol' krotty class. His rants are pretty entertaining at least in their being so bloody far out there...

Oh, I myself don't have any questions because I know almost nothing about him, just what the TRS admin said years ago and that is it. I haven't even watched the clips above.

AM I doing the math right on this military papers? 10 months?

Yes, and it appears he couldn't handle Arabic and did not complete the Thai language course.  Normally I wouldn't care but Christophe is the one running around claiming to be a multi language speaking "linguist".

I know this is an old thread but I felt I should comment here, since it concerns the use of circular training aids which are near and dear to my heart. Actually, Mr. Clugston's Spanish Circle material is pretty good. A bit hybred but in that there are some some indonesian stuff there with those hand movements and footwork. It does not follow what is in Rementeria's 19th Century book Manual de Baratero  and bares no resembalance to Thibault's 1630 text The Academy of the Sword. the fact that he has made this hybred by adapting it to the knife is closer to Carranza's material of the same year. For whatever this is worth, he is using this circle as a training aid.  I did the same thing for years and it works really good especially with sparing where you can stop the action and point out position errors to the students at medium range scenario. It is also useful for the close quarter work and has value in explaining concepts for a variety of weapons.  Mr. Clugston's only mistake is explaining this as a 'system' and not simply a training aid, nothing more.... he is using this as  a marketing tool . All my books have this circle in it and it has value...but nothing is magic. Hell, I used it at a seminar years back for the tomahawk......Remember Hoch. Mr. Clugston reminds me of the way The Applachian Knife Fighter used to talk ,  talking tough is one way of selling a persona.  There is always something to learn from everyone once you get past the ego and chest thumping. He might be a great guy.

All My Best
