Well hears my book list,
Principles of Personel Defense, by Col. Jeff Cooper
Get Tough, by Captain W.E. Fairbairn
Cold Steel, by John Steyers
FM 21-150 1963 Edition, Sold as(Deal The First Deadly Blow) by Paladin press in the 1970's.
Kill or get Killed, by Col. Rex Applegate
The Art of War, by Sun Tzu
Now hear is my review.
Principles of Personal Defense, by Col. Jeff Cooper.
This little 44page booklet is worth it's weight in gold to anyone that has any interest in self defense, it dosn't matter what weapons or lack of weapons you intend to use the seven principles discussed in this book will improve anyones chances for survival in a deadly encounter.
The principles covered are as follows 1 Alertness, 2 Decisiveness,
3 Aggressivenss, 4 Speed, 5 Coolness, 6 Ruthlessness, 7 Surprize
Col. Cooper covers these topics with personel stories as well as documented cases. A lot of this book will be nothing new for the exsperianced Martial Artist or Soilder but will be very informative for the avarage person on the street, a good subtitle might very well be,
The Art of War for the Average Guy.
In Col. Coopers own words, "This booklet was not written for cowards."
It dosen't matter if you love or hate Col. Cooper this is one book you should have in your library.

I love the Col. talking about gun and killing (people)......I wish he would stop there....

I see a lot of books here, but unsure what some of them deal with; I read Hock's review of 'On Combat' & it sound like there is a lot of wading through a lot of blah blah blah to get to the good stuff & I would like to get to the facts & science as fast as possible......SO

Does anyone have a good idea of books I should read that deal with the psychological responses of self-defense or dealing with stress in the heat of the fight (pre & post)?
Also looking for ones that deal with the physiological responses of the body; how the sympathetic/parasympathetic effects us during the fight (pre & post)?

I know there are plenty of people out there who are well versed in this info, I just would like to know what you have read.

Thanks,
 David

Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker is a must read. Especially for women. The first paragraph alone can save your life!

An excellent book i would recommend is by Walter Rauch. I bekieve its called  Real World Self Defense. It is a short book and most of it is about the use of firearms but he really makes a point about what we are up against on the street. The psychology of the violent criminal.

Just finished reading Living the Martial Way by Forrest E. Morgan a very good little read.  Just started Karate-Do My Way of Life by Fanakoshi already got my attention after 10 pages.

Since we are coming up on an election year, and things are heating up between the candidates...everyone should read the following:

1984  by Orwell
Animal Farm also by Orwell
