I bought the book a few weeks ago, and to be honest I didn't know what to expect. I have an extensive martial arts library and, frankly, the vast majority is useless garbage. I have been conditioned by the subpar norm to be very skeptical and to expect to be disappointed. This manual is an exception, to say the least. Without a doubt the most valuable and practical book on the subject I have ever seen. A generally adroit and fit person without martial experience can actually learn something applicable from nothing but this manual and a willing training partner. I got the first DVDs as well, and will buy the rest of them ASAP.
I teach traditional Chinese martial arts and also generic self defense classes at various local parks & rec and community centers. Many of the attendees have asked for knife instruction, but I've had a difficult time making the traditional material relevant to modern situations (not to mention the giant knives!). I will certainly be attending seminars and seeking instructorship, as this material is exactly what the soldiers, police officers, and little old ladies in my classes need.
