Sherlock Holmes

I wonder if this brings Guy Ritchie back to life.  I'm definitely going to see it and hope that it lives up to the SLH tradition.  Oddly, Richie has an American playing the lead role- Robert Downey Jr.  It's strange because so many Brits show up in American films these days as the leading man.

It opens Christmas Day here in the USA.

I and Jane are in.

I am an obsessed Sherlock Fan and hope that Downy is as good as he could be in that part.

Tried to see it today.
Christmas Day.
The parking lot was PACKED! Overflowing.
We decided top pass and see it next week.

Being an old Holmes fan, I hope they don't turn Holmes into a Brad Pitt, "Fight Club" MMA artist.

Well here is the wolf clans thoughts on the movie (screw Time magazine)
The actors were good
The fight scenes were good
The woman was great looking
The plot was good
the dog was good too.....i love dogs -would have better with a wolf ;D
Overall I give it a 9 out of a 10 (again screw Time magazine)
The wolf clan waits for Sherlock Holmes against Moreoty (spelling ?)
The clan goes to a movie to enjoy it not worry about piddling crap like the time reviewer wrote-screw them  and the horse they rode in on-
and thats my story and i am sticking to it-

You know the same things could be said about that horrible Batman TV show. The last horrible Batman movies were moving toward the campy TV show. The last Clooney movie of that era sucked like the TV show sucked. (Except for Uma Thurman in leather) END of the Batman franchise until they resurrected it to be like the Dark Knight, the Batman that long time, cult, Batman readers and Batman fans wanted.

Core and Cult fans like a dark, twisted, genius Sherlock Holmes. Which Robert Downy CERTAINLY could portray. AND all like a realistic Dr Watson, not the bumbling Nigel Bruce one. I will give Jude Law a break but I've never liked him...too cutesy a wanker and if he acts like that, I will be prejudiced against the show.

As hero movies are made from books and comics, the core, the cult following of that hero makes or breaks the movie. It is quite a responsibulity to take on cult heros and bring them to the screen. Heros with decades of anxious fans. Clever writers can do both, like the new Star Trek movie did and the HUlk movie didn't.

Holmes stories don't lend well with the "end of the world" plots. They are small stories of crimes.

I will see it ASAP of course as I am a prejudiced cult fan. Lets see what the Sherlock Holmes fans say.

Film made me want a sword cane!  Might pick one up next week.  I really enjoyed the fights, lots of what looked to me of Wing Chun type moves mixed in.  Jude Law was good as Watson and the costumes and sets were well crafted.

Perhaps the new rage in Martial arts schools will be bartitsu inspired?

Yes he uses two sticks, looks like a pair of Police Billy clubs within the first few minutes of the film.  The more I think about the film the more I want to go and see it again.
