i  tried to see the names at the end of the movie to see if they would show who choragraphed the fight scenes but i did not see any-what  i thought was cool was when he went over in his mind the blows he would use in the ring fight scene-then it pops up with the actual fight-somebody was pretty smart in the way they wrote that into the movie-WW (ELB) "speed of light"

Okay!
Here s clip from the here-to-fore best Sherlock ever...Jeremy Brit....fighting. Fighting of the time and era of the Holmes stories. Holmes Boxed and fenced. I can't remember much else. Will have to look it up...

But this fight scene film clip is a hoot!

I never thought they could replace Basil Rathbone. But Jeremy Britt did by leaps and bounds. So I think he can be replaced. I have hope for Downy.

According to this article he trained in Baritsu which was a misspelling of Bartitsu:

"The popularity of bartitsu in England was widespread. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle even had Sherlock Holmes practicing “baritsu” (a misspelling of bartitsu) in The Adventure of the Empty House. Because Conan Doyle misspelled bartitsu, scholars of Sherlock Holmes were confused for years by the reference"

This is interesting and it is possibly the only mention of it in ALL of the stories, of which I missed the singular mention.  (I must admit it sounds like Bar and Tits - how did I miss that?)

Review from a hardcore Holmes fan Gallowglass academy

"Some Thoughts on the New Sherlock Holmes Movie

Presuming this new addition to the Holmes lore is based on a previously unpublished case history from Dr. Watson, one has to wonder if Watson forgot his own time line or has time shifted the events to cover over the scandal of Lord Blackwood almost taking over the British Empire.

I say this due to the fact that much of the action at the end of the movie takes place on the almost completed Tower Bridge. Yet the Tower Bridge was under construction from 1888 until 1894, so the action in the current episode would likely have taken place in 1892 or 1893. Yet as we all know, Holmes was still considered to have been killed in his fight with Prof. Moriarty in 1891 and did not return to London until the spring of 1894.

Also, of course, Watson married Mary Marston in 1888. So this must shift the action in the current story to this time frame, which makes much more sense considering that Prof. Moriarty is alive and well in the movie.

I am not sure Holmes would recognize himself from the portrayal of Robert Downey jr. To be out and about on the streets of London in such an unkempt manner just does not strike me as Holmes' style. On the other hand I think Watson would very much appreciate Jude Law's presentation of how he handled himself in so many of the cases where he assisted Holmes.

As to the action scenes in the movie we now see Holmes and Watson using the skills we know they both must have had to take on the underworld of London. I doubt Holmes would have put himself forward in such a public way to display his skills at pugilism. Rather, I feel he would have taken himself to a private gym where he would have shown how to handle himself with his fists. Unless, of course, this was part of a case where he had gone undercover to root out a nefarious evildoer.

For those fans of the Holmes' stories who believe that Holmes would never have used such brutal methods to solve his cases, I am afraid you will be disappointed by this addition to the lore. However, for those of us who always suspected there was more to the stories than Watson was allowed to put into print, this case allows us to see Holmes and Watson truly at their best. "

Well I saw Holmes and have to give it a B- it never really found itself, a lot of fun stuff to watch but all hither an yon. The fights scenes are cool, but the best stick work stuff is all done with jerky camera and hard to follow.
When it tries to be a comedic buddy movie it's not bad, but they space that out too far, and(small spoiler alert)
Holmes doesn't really use his brain he uses some drugs and a spell to get to endgame, but Sarah loved it Hock and called it a great time at the movies so there ya are!! :)

As a "lifelong" Holmes fan? I suspect that my upcoming review will be about the same.

Finally seen it!
Absolutely awesome. Enjoyed every second.
They even had Watson's cold weather limp in the film, from his Afghan war wound.
(Jude Law was great. Downey utterly awesome...Sherlock even squared off in an off-fashioned "bartitsu/Queens De Marksberry stance at one point)
I am in! IN! When's the next one?

I saw it this last weekend, and thought it was awesome! Downey and Law were fantastic in their parts, and I liked the way the H2H fights were filmed. The story line was also very good, and intricate, and I would love to see it again.

So, Robert Downy's Sherlock is somewhere between Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Britt.

When you think about it, the actor who plays Lord Blackwood looks more like the kind of person who would be selected to play Holmes instead, based on the original artworkof the Strand articles.

But Downy is great.
