Best DVD set for training at home without partners?
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:32:51 PM »

I have been looking since September for a new job as a mechanical engineer, so my budget prevents me from joining a school or gym right now (and loving how much the Obama stimulus is helping me  >:(). I thought I could buy some new DVDs and work out at home, honing a few skills and keeping in shape to boot. I am currently a reserve deputy sheriff and still very active, but at age 52 with many knee and foot surgeries I do not want to train in a way that would hurt those joints anymore.

Do any of you have any recommendations for the best course for working out at home without a partner? Looking at Hock's website I thought that Nick Hughe's course might be good, and Joe Hubbard's course looked good too. I await your suggestions...

You have to have a war post or something like it.

Everyhting else is pretty much partner centric.

Here is some additions-if you can purchase a practise dummy and you can use it in the home-review the dvd from Hocks set and then do the movement on the dummy-also
you can button a wool shirt around it and practise on the floor defending against movements as you defend against the arms-you can practise chokes also-it works well
as you can work on the collar of the shirt wrapping it in various chokes./and simulate blocking against a knife stab-alll this will keep you from further injuring the effected limb

I already have those courses - I will just use them for now until I find a new job. I do train with my friend Ting about 3 hours/week - he is very good at Tai Chi, and the practice keeps me healthier, looser jointed,  and more mobile.

I have a good chance of getting a new job soon at a company in Brenham Texas, which is about 80 minutes Northwest of Houston. This would put me in an area where I think there would be more access to schools and training partners working the Hock CQC material than here in Minnesota. Are there any good places to train in that area?

Have a quick look on the seminar page for Texas hot spots around Houston

http://www.hockscqc.com/seminars/

We have experienced some global cooling here, (And alll around the world) and its not always as warm as one might expect in winters, but it is not snowy MN!
