In summary, simply put, weapons are a indivudual, state's rights issue, a principle at the core of the US Constitution. If all parts of the weapon are made inside one state, the Feds cannot control the ownership. They can easily control (and tax) interstate transport of anything. That's a brief summary.

Yes.  The real danger here, as many of us are aware, are the ATF.  They've already proven, repeatedly, they have no use for due process.  In addition, they are, for all intents and purposes, accountable to no one.  Passing this law in the majority of the U.S. could have potential ramifications for the scope of the ATF's enforcement/thuggery abilities.

The problem is that the Feds long ago found a way around the issue of state sovereignty. They argue that if a widget is made completely within a state then a widget that would have been imported now will not need to be imported. Since that affects interstate trade then they claim a right to regulate the manufacture of widgets.

Since everything a state does affects its neighbors the feds can then claim the right to regulate everything. This ruling is intellectually bankrupt of course, but the feds look the other way because it serves their desires. Moral of the story: Never let the Constitution get in the way of what you want to do...  :'(

Some good news coming from Montana and Wyoming:  The same bill has been given some teeth.  Criminal penalties for (people)  federal agents if they are caught.  Fines and Jail time.  A bill is just a bill, it's the enforcement clause that makes it work.  The whole point of any legislation today has to be aimed at the ability to enforce the legislation at the state level, leveraging the 10th amendment and asserting (not re-asserting) the state sovereignty clause.  Go get em states!  that 's what I say.

Thanks for the post, Kentbob.

Good information, states sovereignty should be upheld.  Northern California, where I live near Oregon border, once tried to become its own state-the State of Jefferson.  CA is soo riddled with bed wetters...it is a magnet for the nations' pacifists.  But also leads the nation in violent crime, go figure...

As you know, rural areas have very different take on gun ownership.  I can see it coming down to secession, as DC has no clue on what the pulse of America is anymore.
