The little girl certainly won't. It is hard to argue against the statement that if the gun hadn't been in the house it would never have happened. I still wonder how a three year old can make a .380 fire. It was cocked and off safe, surely? Dumb. I am a firm believer that if you have a genuine need for a firearm then you should have one. But you should know how to use it etc. I would argue he had no genuine need other than fuelling his ego.

He will be prosecuted for killing his child.   Same as an unsafe swimming pool, knife on the counter, or any other stupidity.

I heard something outside my house last night.   I grabbed a shotgun and a flashlight, double checked that everything was locked up and beeped the security again on my truck.

I did not call the police.    No need for them to come 10 - 20 minutes to find nothing.

I went to sleep again about 10 minutes later.   Some things, you simply do.  No ego - men have to be responsible for their family safety.

Redcap,

Do you realize how your statement sounds.....

"child is killed by rat in house."    It's hard to argue against the statement that if the gun rat hadn't been in the house it would never have happened.

Well, no shit.

Come on . . .

You could substitute Barney the Dinosaur doll for rat or gun. Of course if the instrument of her death wasn't there to begin with then she wouldn't have died from it. My point is that this is what the anti-gun argument will say and it is difficult to disagree, is it not?

If you feel you need a shotgun to protect your family and the location where you live is still attractive enough to remain there or you have no choice, then so be it. But would you leave it lying around, cocked and off safe?

Sometimes a casual acceptance of firearms as tools and everyday household items leads to  a subsequent lack of attention to detail. Familiarity breeds contempt etc

Would I check out a possible intruder with a shotgun or pistol? If I felt it was the right thing to do, yes. But then to leave it in an unsafe condition... never. Sorry but I was trained better than that. I am not anti-gun, I'm anti-idiot.

Now, you make more sense.

The mistake was leaving it without proper control.   Not the problem with having a gun.

He will be prosecuted and will have lost his child.....stupid is tough.

Luckily I have never needed a gun to protect my household in the UK.

Hey, anyway.... have we had another loony tunes shooting in the USA?  They're so common now they hardly get reported over here.

What a fun night. Got to grab my glock and go shoot at a dog that was harassing my horses. Actually my horses could care less. It was just a good excuse for me to shoot my gun. Got the laser going and fired some shots as the dog was on the run. Glocks have such nice muzzle flash in the calm darkness of night. AWWW and the sound and smell of powder. Didn't try to kill or hit the dog, just see how close I could get and practice night sight targeting and laser tagging. Better training then any UK cop will ever get. "That's sad"
But this little gun incident will not make the UK news either. And Why??? Because knowone gives a shit.  Is your country that fucking boring that your news has to report on the little bullshit that happens in our country. Half the shit on the BBC America is petty crap that our local news doesn't even bother with.
Or news doesn't report anything on the UK. Why? because knowone cares.
So why dont we just end these pro, anti gun posts . You dont like guns and dont have them. Fine. We like them and have them. Fine. Lets just leave it alone.

Redfive, we get those boring petty reports here, too. Like Ft Hood, Virginia Tech, Columbine, that Armish school, some bloke and the IRS and a Piper Cub and on and on it goes. I found when I was in the USA many people are so parochial they don't care about the next county let alone any further away.

Why not kill the dog? If it is worth shooting at then it is worth killing, surely? Or does scaring small brained mammals get you hard? No, that's the muzzle flash, right?  ;D Didn't they train you to close your eyes on firing at night? Even Kevin Costner knows that one ('The Bodyguard' 1992).

My Filipino father in law told me if I wanted to learn to fight for real then I should go and kill a dog. If I can't kill a dog, how could I ever kill a man? He has a point. It's not about picking and choosing, it's about getting it done and having the guts to do it, for real and not just wave it around and talk tough.

At least I have a gun to kill or not to kill. what do you have ? Rocks, little pussy police bottons. And yes shooting does get me hard? Better then any Viagra. As far shooting at little brained mammals, well glad you weren't around.
I don't think y'all ( you all) understand that owning a gun in the states is like owning microwave oven or chair or car. Its  common place. I grew up with guns. My high school had a gun range built into the center of it. Allot of guys had gun racks in there trucks with riffles and shot guns on them. It was no big deal. It still is not a big deal. There were just as many shooting then as now. Its just that the media plays on it. You don't here how many people defend them selves with a gun on a weekly or monthly bases. Only the bad guys git press.
The City I work for has almost 300,000 people. As of this year there thus far has not been one shooting or gun related death. There is most likely as many guns as people in my city.
I live in the country. Every month me and the neighbors get together and skeet shoot. I shoot duck from my back porch. I go to the front porch and I can shoot dove. Guns are common. Its no big deal. Its part of who we are. We are not paranoid, guns are just fun to have. I love to shoot.  It takes skill and is a fun challenge at times. Its not all about killing and combat.

the reason that a story like this gets reported is that the liberal news media want to blow it out of proportion so that everybody can go apeshit.
And it doesn't matter where one lives. What if you live in Beverly Hills and your liberal hollywood fag neighbor gets in a tift with his butt buddy and they come running naked through your yard, ky jelly in hand, threatining your family? Do you invite them for tea to talk about it, or pull out your granddad's m1 and sail a couple of rounds at their fag asses?
Now the thought came up that one wouldn't need a gun depending on where they lived. Well, Ol Bri puts his blow up doll collection and his girlie bells out in the yard to trip up any would be bad guys. And since we don't have the now to be known "girlie bell option" available here int he Good Ol USA, we'll just have to stick with our guns.
Once again.... THANK ME!
