The Airmen on base where I work all liked it for the portrayal of the mind set of the main character.

Liked it. I even engraved and taped a metal sign on my long gun cabinet that bears the movie's name. Again it is a movie and not everything is real. But it does give us an idea that being EOD is a very tiresome and dangerous profession. I don't know about the deal with the Army's EOD but the Navy's EOD serve with specop units on bomb disarming missions and it is considered a rate (a Navy/Coast Guard term for primary job or MOS) in the Navy. The Navy EOD techs are also capable of wielding underwater as well as parachuting with their heavy eqpt. into the water, which makes them a little different from their Army counterparts. But regardless of what service, they are tough individuals with nerves of steel as well as patience and are willing to put it all on the line.

Army and Air Force EOD are probably some of the toughest, and coolest, cookies I've seen.  We had one of the senior Army EOD sergeants put on the full suit, run nearly 100 meters in 130+ heat, up to a mortar to see if it actually was attached to a detonator.  Haven't seen the Hurt Locker, I've just seen to many explosions up close to make this movie interesting.  But I do have a lot of admiration for EOD, whatever they wear on their nametape.

The best bit in the film for me was the part when they where fixing the jeep and the the wrench didn't fit. The S.A.S Commander ( Ralph Fiennes ) just say's, " Solutions ! ".
No discussion, no blame, no debate just lets fix the problem now.
Love it.
