NY Gun Control Laws (Applies to Civilians Only)
« Reply #30 on: February 26, 2010, 05:49:36 PM »

-handguns illegal in NYC (Manhattan/Harlem/Bronx/Brooklyn)
-knife laws are strict too but not sure what length limit
-peppersprays must be registered with the police
-registration and licensing system for all guns, including transportation in vehicle, possession in the home, permit required for concealed carry (no open carry allowed/concealed permit difficult to get w/o a valid reason, which is hard to define)
-storage requirements (ammo and guns must be separate and locked up)
-silencers/machine guns illegal
-semiautomatic rifles illegal in NY City (not sure but may be legal in some parts of NY)

PS: This goes to show that some parts of the United States have stricter gun control laws than others yet the ones with stricter gun control laws have higher crime rates and murders.

Tell me what parts in NY you have been then. No need to be secretive about it. As for me, been to Chicago too, gang capital of the east coast.

This is ridiculous.  You want to narrow down the country to the bits you've been in.... and then somehow present that as you seeing more of the US than I.

Here's my quick itinerary... though it was a long time ago

New York
Buffalo (for Niagra Falls)
Cleveland
Chicago
Omaha
Yellowstone
Denver
Las Vegas
San Franciso
Los Angelese
Phoenix (for Flagstaff - Grand Canyon)
Dallas
New Orleans
Key West
Orlando
Atlanta
Washington D.C.
and back to New York.

That's fairly extensive.  Some places was literally a day or two, whilst others longer.  Like I say, ran out of money in Key West and worked as a labourer (badly) to save for the trip home.  $6 an hour in the hot sun.... Mind you, only $7 a night at the Youth Hostel.... and food sure is cheap in flabby US of A!

Much of the time I was off the beaten track for tourists, so got to see America warts and all.

Now you can take it or leave it, but I'd say that this is seeing more of America than most of Americans.  Woiuldn't you?

Or are you going to give me a list of your friends and relatives addresses and ask me whether or not I've been there as often as you have......

There is a large gay community in Key West of course.  I used to walk about in Union Jack shorts, as they sparked conversation and, with you lot loving us Brits, got me plenty free drinks.

On the building site some of the guys heard what they perceived to be a funny accent, checked out my rather dapper shorts and all nodded and winked at each other as if I was gay.

Luckily Rex, a Bear of a man who had got me the job said "He isn't gay.  Can't be..... He's British!"
