Fight science Police 2/25/10
« on: February 26, 2010, 01:05:46 PM »

Anyone see the Fight Science show on Police Officers ?

One particular part had a SWAT Unit doing a simulated Hostage Rescue.
The Team Leader, and the others were hooked up with Heart Rate monitors,Breathing monitors,Pulse oxygen monitors and visual monitors.
The Team Leader was then Injected with Epi./adrenaline to start him off in a higher state of anticipation.

The results:
The Team Leader, and others had a huge spike in  Heart Rate and respiration with the Team Leader reaching 165 Beats per minute  and leveling at that rate.(started at 85-bpm)

All men seemed to reach a similar level and stayed there, fully functional with no signs of the dreaded Adrenaline shut down of any body functions.
(such as tunnel vision, hearing loss, inability to function)

The men were able to function as a team through out and even though sensory obstruction devices were used  they were able to see, hear, communicate and function on to and through the objective.
(the sensory deprivation devices used were smoke, strobe flashes,Smoke, and a siren)
The men were able to focus and block out the distractive input and carry on.

The Team Leader said that this state is able to be attained and maintained by Training in Realistic,as close to REAL situations,as possible.
Once one learns how to work, operate and Deal with the simulated Realities and Distractions, then the easier it is in the REAL Thing as it all becomes Normal Function.

Another smack down to the Siddle /Grossman Adrenaline,Heart Rate,Body Shut down connections.

Saw the episode "super cops" i believe it was called. Was surprised to see "big john" McCarthy on the show. Not as surprised when i saw the Chris P. character, thought he was only a "human wrecking ball".

I found it very interesting that they went the extra step to pump the leader full of epi. First thought through my head was the articles that Hock had done on Hick's Law and what not. Its always nice to see that show be "amazed" by what the human body can do. These scientist are surprised to find out things that the combative community already know.

What i got from a combination of Hick's law and a number of other things along those lines is that, yeah your body might shut down and only do "caveman" maneuvers under authentic stress, but only if you have NEVER seen it before. Systems that use these scientific "facts"(Hick's Law and what not) are only playing to the person who won't train. They are playing to those who sit on the couch thinking " oh if that happened, i would probably do this...that." They don't actually get off the couch and see how amazing the human body is and what it can become.

The water cannon was pretty sweet. Little pressure, little water and presto a sneeze on steroids. Don't know what will be on next week, but it probably will be interesting.

Canuk,
As the show was just aired I have not seen a site to view the full show yet.

Mark ,
I too was surprised to see Big John  and Chris the human wrecking ball in uniform.
At first I thought they just dressed up their regular players and were trying to fool the public.

As you say Mark, the show, all of them not just this one, basically show what the human body is capable of and what it can do in extremes.
It definately shows that the Human body CAN function beyond the supposed LIMITS ,SO CALLED Experts place on it based on failed/flawed or hypothetical research.
