Question on sympathetic actions
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:37:46 PM »

I just read a article on handgun training given by the state of Arizona- in it they mentioned "sympatetic firing of a weapon-i.e. one hand grabs the suspect shirt and squeezes-the hand holding the weapon will  possibly squeeze the trigger.

My question is: if you are holding /grabbing the shirt of a attacker and squeezing/pulling will your other hand automatically move and strike or push-if so at the same time or afterward.??

If so then how do we instruct this to a student?

When OC spray frist hit the LEO market it trained to be used in the non dominant hand while the dominant hand held the pistol in case lethal force was required. I believe that there were several instances where people we shot while the officer only intended to use OC spray, the practice of deploying both systems at the same time has long since been disused.

WW have you ever held someone and then hit them as a reflex uncontrolled action? everone is different and respond different. Its the training that counts

Absolutely with guns.
Tests done and proven worldwide.
Keep your finger off the trigger until the last possible instant.

Unarmed - The body does want to move its arms and legs like a pendulum for balance. Can be fixed.

Interesting- i just talked to one of my students- a deputy sheriff-the department has put out a policy that the mace will be carried on the same side as the pistol so that both will not be drwn and wpn fired instead of spraying mace-WW
