Anyone seen this yet?  We had a couple issued to our unit, mostly for personnel recovery.  I'd like to requisition one, but I think I'm going to have to buy one off the market instead.  It's got a pretty sweet feel to it, and you could just as easily dress out a deer as you could hack into a wall or door with it.

I’ve heard that tomahawks are becoming popular with American soldiers and that they are being issued as part of the running kit for the stryker vehicles. Any truth in that Kentbob? I can see how they could be useful, especially in the urban environment. Some of the tactical tomahawks are ridiculously expensive.

In Gun 2, which is my DVD on searching, I have a list of three things you need for a serious search. A light, (or a torch as they say down under) a piece of rope (several feet) and an axe.

Three important things.

Everybody camping (and soldiers camp) needs an axe. The versatile the better.
This super expensive antique looking. historical axes? I'd rather have a nice rubber handled one at from Walmart.

 I carry what is called a demolition axe on my work truck. Common with allot of the firedepartments. steal core fiberglass handle. Can withstand about a ton of side force without breaking, can withstand cutting around 10,00volts of live wire, Without knocking your balls up in the watch pocket. the back of the axe is v shaped sort of like an alligator's mouth. it acts like a giant can opener, wall board, sheet metal, plywood ,corrugated metals, it cuts right through it all like hand sheers. I found this one about 9 years ago at a old payless cashways hardware shore.
 Man o man you can sure throw this thing to, has a great head balance. I'll see if I can get the name off of it still. Id like to get another one.  I'm with hock on getting a good one from a local store. Most of this stuff has been around for a hundred years and tradesmen use these items on a daily bases. Most tried and true. So why reinvent something just to term it " for military use" and jack the price up just because it looks cool and tactical.

Some soldiers, like myself, like to carry a tomahawk.  Unfortunately, it's hard to figure out how to carry one and keep access to it in the face of all the other gear I carry.  

The Spec Plus axe is nice in that it also functions as a crash axe, and a few other utilitarian uses.  There are times when you want to get into a crate or similar such item.

Just like carrying any other weapon, though, if you don't know how to use one, you're going to end up getting hurt most likely.

Do you know if they are issued as part of the Stryker’s running kit Kentbob? I can see how they would come in handy. With so much kit to carry these days an item has to offer a lot to make it into my Bergen. I can think of a number of occasions when it would have been useful to have something like this though.

As a weapon, I would imagine carrying it in a way that enabled a quick draw would be problematic.

I am not in any way affiliated with any of the Stryker units, never have been, hope I never will be.  I couldn't say what they carry as part of their Basic Issue Items(BII).

I think we carried more in case we had to respond to a crash and extract a pilot, or search houses.  More of a tool, as I said it was in a pre-made kit that the company had put together.

There is a "tactical" sheath for it, that attaches to molle webbing.  But it jacks the price up nearly $100 dollars, IIRC.  Not worth it, I could probably make my own without spending nearly as much.

  You probably already have this info but Ontario is a GSA supplier and the axe has an NSN. 4240-01-547-5927 for the model with a sheath.  Not sure if this helps at all, but i figured it wouldn't hurt.
