training knife
« on: May 07, 2010, 07:11:21 AM »

I had found what looked like a couple of great training knives from Century, but I was told yesterday they are not in stock. So, do any of you have some ideas on where to buy folding and fixed blade knives that don't cost a bunch of money? I was getting a big discount from the guy who owns the gym I go to on the century knives but they won't be here in time for the seminar in PA.

Thanks,

Just borrow a knife at the seminar. As far as knives go, there are always a few extras around.

I recently picked up a couple of trainers - one fixed and one folder - made by Proforce for $10 retail each from AWMA. Both are quite heavy duty and feel like they could really take a beating. Note that if you hit your training partner with one or the other, you might do some real damage - so maybe not so good for full-speed, full-contact, but great for slow motion technique work. If you live in the tri-state area, AWMA ships very quickly or you could go by their storefront in Philly, which is 25 minutes' drive south of Jim's gym.

Fixed:

Folder:

Hope that helps!

Thanks Kelly, good info. I didn't realize AWMA was that close to Philly.

No problem! You're welcome to try the two I described above at the seminar. I'll bring both. Or, maybe it's not that out of your way to swing by AWMA? I don't know, but I'll see you at the seminar!
