Now are we back to square one on this subject again?

Are you teaching Krav Maga, wearing and selling Krav Maga shirts without any Krav certifications, connections or lineage?

Evening Hock-here is the deal- I am part of the Hellenic Krav Maga schoo(athens Greece)  owned by a
instructor in KM I told  him what was going on with me and I  have a letter showing I attended his training plus I am in contact with Krav Maga association-Godin system in Israel and told them what I was doing- both are ok with them-And my school name is as I wrote it- my litature t shirts advertising does not list any association/federation etc on any thing i show the public-plus there are 2 other schools  in clarksville saying they teach KM. I have done research and found that in Israel there are many different scjhools-
I advise my students that I teach elements of KM -and close quarter combat tactics
taken from instructors all over the world --including You-Gary Alexander-Michael Depasquale Jr-also long time ago I visited Mr Charles Nelson in NYC who told me that he started his own school- i use that as i go.
The word Krav Maga means contact combat in  hebrew-thats what i instruct in.
I contact the Darine Levine headquarters to discuss training to see what  they offered
( i wanted to see if they would respond-nothing-guess i dont have 5000 dollars ;D)
WW (ELB) Speed of light-more to come

What is really satisfying to me is the students i am getting-they range from police officers.students. Moms. business professionals,Special forces types-military dependents, krav maga students from other organizations
Thursday I was asked to meet with the Tn rape and domestic violence association to see if i can help at all
I also am being requested to give a hands on class to military dependents whose husbands are now in Afgan- the husbands are all for it.The  101st have had some kias lately and if i can help in any way i will.
I have 3 friends who are SF types-they have no complaints about what I am doing-
one had 25 yrs one 22 and one still is in-they say go for it---so its Ari,s Krav Maga
for better or worse
and I still love ya brother...WW

Whatever...

I do NOT get the Krav Maga mystique. Never have. I just don't. I mean...I get it because it's an advertising...name...thingy, and that's it. If Darren Levine hadn't spent a gazillion dollars in ads since the 90s, very few people would know of or care about it all. I guess that's why he wants all those thousands, huh?

Anyway, don't caught in the

"I am an instructor of ______, but not really certified in ______ "

whatever the name of the course is, Krav or otherwise. There are a lot of people going through a short version of hell and blowing thousands to get those teaching creds.

If ya' fly the flag, if ya' hang the shingle....respectable folks in the know ask about the architecture.

What happens when the Krav fad fades?  Will you then be teaching elements of MMA?  Or BJJ?  Why not just call it :

Richard Luntz's Contact Combat
Hardcore Self Defence taught by former U.S. Marine!

Let's look at it another way.  Let's say that you were teaching a system called Team Ricardo's (your Portuguese name) BJJ, but you had no previous rank in any BJJ systems.  Do you think there would be any fallout over time?

Be careful not to undo all the ground work you have done by using a name of a system in which you have no real creds.

Hock and Joe-I appreciate the advice concerning what I am advicating- which is
teaching unarmed self defense -using the background of Krav Maga and other close combat tactics-I am being careful that I do not in any way say I represent any special
group with in Krav Maga systems and in fact I mention that to every prospective student and group I give a seminar too.

Maybe its me  but over the past few years when i meet a fellow "student of martial arts"
and we discuss our past training or present training/teaching I have never had a person
even show any disrespect or question my background-I take from them what can be used and keep on going with what i am doing-

Life is too short and complicated these days  for me to get jammed up -I just keep
on helping the average joe (sorry Joe H)-or Jane - to learn what hopefully will bring them home at the end of the day if attacked.Hock-See you in Talahoma end of sep-WW

(WW, I put all those rankings together for you above)

Joe is talking about Krav Maga. What Joe is saying is like this...
Its like what if a guy down the street from you opened a school called US Marine Combatives, AND he was never a Marine.  He even wears and sells Marine shirts. BUT, the guy explains, he has a letter from a Marine stationed in Greece that he knew and the Greek Marine said "it was okay." You'd probably go kick his ass when you caught him wearing the Marine shirt. And bitch about the guy in Greece.

But, Ordinary people are ignorant about martial arts.
How many people in your town (anywhere) actually came to you because you teach Krav? or, actually elements of Krav.  Most times, people don't know what the hell Krav is.
School owners think about this - Just about every new customer has to have a brief sales pitch lesson about...the system.  Sales pitch. Willie Dynamite's system is the best every. Willie's picture is on the wall. They look at you and they look at Willie's picture.  Many "want to believe." And they love thinking that THEIR system head was special. How many times in everyone's life have you heard the stories about how THEIR little school's head black belt was special. "He's not like the others, you know. Sensei Jerry teaches real self defense."

People buy in or they don't buy in. I mean this is the human condition, how and why people go to the churches they go to, the cars they buy. The people they vote for. The "Big Buy-In."

In the beginning , the common walk-in doesn't know one wit about Krav Maga. He might know Bruce Lee or Steven Seagal. He knows what a black belt is from decades of lore and movies. Now of course, from nightly television they all know the UFC and therefore something about MMA.

Anyway, in the village of the blind, the man with one eye is king. In your burg in TN if there is not any other competition, no one will care. You have the one eye. Or, if you are REALLY ineffectual and under the local radar, no one will care. But, if one karate school starts losing some customers to that "old Krav Guy" in town, OR, worse, if just one Krav school opens up in the burg, owned by a guy who spent great time and money to get authentic, Krav rank, you will have a trash campaign of fraudulence mired against you.

Joe

Sorry Mate, you haven't answered my questions:

1) Are you a certified instructor in Krav Maga?  Yes or No will do.

2) If yes, what level are you?  Just state the level in a few words.

3)  How many training hours have you logged in regard to the Krav Maga seminars that you have attended in Greece and Israel combined?  Just answer with number of hours.

I am only interested in your Krav Maga background- nothing else.

Joe-I see that you are really digging into this-I told you in previous posts that I took classes- so its No-to certification and hours studying overseas at a KM school was not that much-just letters saying i attended-but hours and hours and hours and weeks and years- practising afterwards

What difference does it make to you? You are in jolly old england where the law favors the attacker not the victim.....
The studying i have done has saved me or my family  more than once-thats what counts.........
I also have reviewed some older posts and I see that many subscribers have stated that continous studying of various styles helps one out -
thats why people travel, take seminars and add to their tool box..
I for one will not pay a fortune to take a special type style and pay and pay and pay

hope that this helps-WW (El Lobo Blanco) Speed of Light

WW

I’m not digging into anything, just asking three simple questions.  I guess we can conclude – from your answers - that you have NO Krav Maga certification, NO Krav Maga rank, NO Krav Maga lineage, yet you are teaching classes and seminars using the moniker:

Ari’s (your Hebrew name) Krav Maga.

Do you seriously believe that there is nothing wrong with that?

This is in no way a judgement call of what you actually teach or what you can do.  I thought Bob Spour’s SAS Fighting Secrets was a good product, but he lost ALL credibility when it was revealed that he was NOT in the SAS.  Moni Aisik is a very accomplished martial artist and athlete; he also called what he did commando Krav Maga, but the only problem was that he wasn;t a commando and it wasn’t much Krav Maga that he was teaching.  He also had no real creds in that art.

Your justification is that Krav Maga actually means Contact Combat, so why don’t you use that name?  The beginning of this thread suggests that you are in fact jumping on the Krav Maga Fad bandwagon and hope that it lasts awhile.

Now, you will do whatever it is that you have to do, but as Hock stated earlier, there are many people who are ignorant about the martial arts and will buy into and believe anything.  Hock explained that you don’t want to end up like those other people who say they teach a particular art, but then have no creds in that art- that’s good advice!  We are trying to help you here.  You have a lot of experience and I’m sure you have a lot to offer people, so why do you call your art Krav Maga?  It’s an obvious dilemma.   As former President Ronald Regan said:

“When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”

Can you see the light?  It’s a simple yes or no question.

I still love ya’
