The Flip Cam, a great tool
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:48:03 AM »

I have been using flip video for a while now, it's a great camera for shooting instructional videos for your students, it has built in editing software and allows you to share your videos on youtube and facebook, or you can use the flipshare website and have discretionary control over who can view your videos.

Here is a clip I made and posted to youtube...

and here is the flip site...

Bryant,

Thanks for the link to the Youtube clip. That looks to be a very good quality video for such a small camera. Which model do you have, if I may ask?

Thanks for the info, Bryant. I agree...don't think you need the HD version. The one you have seems to do a great job.

cool Bryant!  finally got to see your kung fu and it is very good....

The only problem I have with the damn Flip is that the people I see using it walk around with it while they talk.  I find that irritating and distracting.  I guess the new gen likes all the movement.  A little stillness please!  Your video was quite pleasing though...

I agree that the Flip is a superb device. I've had a couple of the forefather versions of the Flip and they were pretty bad. This thing is excellent! Several of my students have them and use them all the time. I noticed that Staples is selling them now.

Also, I greatly enjoyed your YouTube video, Bryant. Bookmarked!

BTW, consider coming out to meet Sifu Dana Wong in October. We would love to meet you!

Here are a couple of good HD alternatives:

Samsung HMX-E10
~$200
Swiveling lens
2.7 inch LCD with touch interface
Video Effects
8MP Stills
MicroSD card (a minus, unless you already have one)

Panasonic HM-TAI
~$170
Webcam feature
2 inch LCD
SD card

The Panasonic is quite impressive and really gives the Flip models a run for the money.
