reminds me of the spear thing from predator.

Ive got the Manuela DE bareato (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) that is referenced a few times on his site.  It's a book about Spanish style knife fighting as it was in days past.  Ill dig up that book at home and post the time frame for those interested.  Been awhile since i looked through it but i dont recall any reverse grip techniques in it.

more later

Its a really, REALLY niche item.
Making it a really, REALLY niche training program.

If I encountered this on the street, I would draw my Klingon phaser and zap him.

Definitely a different and unique appearing weapon.

Without having had the experience of using one, I would still think that this would have limited penetration and effectiveness as a stabbing weapon. I would also anticipate some difficulty in presenting this weapon from a quickdraw situation from what I could make out of the sheath and the shape of the blade.

Maybe if I saw it in action I'd have a different opinion. At least he has a trainer available for practice purposes. He doesn't have any training videos listed on the store sight, but I guess if you were interested you could email him for more info. Good website; easy to navigate.

I've heard Hock comment several times that the double edged "Sykes-Fairbairn" commando type knife was "God's knife" and everything else was....well, not!
I happen to agree.

I'm perfectly content with my Cold Steel SRK for a fixed blade and my little Kershaw combat folder for now. I don't anticipate $300.00 leaving my wallet any time soon for one of these bad boys.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. He says it's not a fantasy knife, but I'm getting a definite "Star Trek" vibe from the thing.

I am impressed by his effort to develop a training program specifically for his creation, and to have a trainer available. Shows some good forethought and planning. I hope he gets his patent; it's just not for me.

Maybe somebody will make a Sci-Fi movie and one of the main characters will be using his blade. Stranger things have happened!

That's a really strange weapon.

IMO the idea behind a defensive knife is that it is a daily carry tool that you happen to know how to use as a weapon.  I've carried one as a tool for years before learning how to fight with one.  I just figured that since I have one at all times it might make sense to get some training.

For a fighting knife, one carried as a weapon, it would make more sense to have something like a Bowie or dagger.  Any supposed trapping advantage this thing has can be done with the guard of a Bowie or large dagger if someone really wants to do that.

There is a Japanese weapon with a similar shape but with no cutting edges.  I don't know what it is called and have not seen how it is used, but by looking at it I'm guessing it is a grappling tool used for the same things a sai would be used for.  It looks sort of like a sai without the central shaft.

I don't know what I would do with one but I'd take it if someone gave it to me. (Yeah, I like Star Trek). Would look good on the wall! Looks like it would be a pain in the split end to sharpen!

"When you die, can I give that to me daughter?"

He looks like he might speak Klingon too....

Still, P.T. Barnum knew how to make a buck, and I bet this guy can too, off the same kind of people who used to pay to see the egress.

Star Trek vibes...

Stab me up Scotty ! Fantasy knife plain and simple. I can see a judge in court roasting someone for carrying it. A few months in the big house for having the thing and some more in the nut factory for thinking your a Klingon.

I don't like the idea of sticking it up on a wall. To many negatives.

Live long and Prosper..!

I got a chance to train with this knife on Friday & the make of it. & I have to say it feels very well in the hand. Yes it does look like a Klingon knife, but fun to use.

Garrison makes the point that this is a knife with 1 purpose & that is fighting. He has about 20 of them in Afghanistan being used by military & contractors.

Says he ships them to Snake Blocker & he gets them to soldiers to use. (He is good friends with SB so it seems.)

Fast on the quick draw & conceals easily. You will need another knife for utility/survival; this one is just for fighting.

I pointed out that ever thing he was showing that night could be done with a regular knife & mostly FMA tactics were use & he agreed.

But what you can do with this one is:

- You can cup the hand with the knife (like a C - clamp) & make De-gloving the skin right off the fingers & thumb easy; a long with a disarm. Can use it to control the the hand/appendage easier.
- you do not have to orient to the edge (like a dual edge) because the whole thing is one big edge.

Fun to use; will train again & let you more. My JKD instructor in is a assistant instructor with him.

PS: If you have any question about the knife I am sure he would be more than happy to answer them.
