JimH-and ent Bobread the last post- really honest info here-I started out in the early 60,s -trained by Gary Alexander-no equipment at all except a cup-everyone who got on the mat got
their share of injuroes-but we learned .......
Now I am 72 and those training days have stuck with me-
I have some students who are in their late 50,s with injuries from medical problems-
I attempt to instill in them the premise that they have to continue the attack to survive
the altercation-
I hav e one reserve police officer who has bad knees from being on jump status when he was with the 101st-we are very careful in class not to put any pressure on the legs-but he really goes the limit on the blocks, and punches and he always is talking up the mental part of self defense-

I don't understand...how is that different from an MMA clip?  Except for the more friendly atmosphere.  I didn't really understand the point of the clip.

Of course. That is a clan of mine and I know people in that clip. I am Kaju black belt in the Gaylord system and in the Gaylord family tree. Through the "Dean of Kaju" - Dean Goldade of Austin, TX. His was Brain Yoshi. Yoshi to Prof Gaylord.

Prof Gaylord passed away (last summer? Jeez I can't remember but I was there in Oakland at the time) but is in that very episode. Some of my friends were also in that show and that scene is a bit of a put-on for the show, as if the Kaju guys get together in a secret warehouse weekly for "death matches" NHB battles. But the big rank tests were like blood baths.

Many of the Kaju guys are VERY tough and it is a really good, well-rounded system. Gaylord was a really bad dude. Old school. Mean. Steel worker and construction into his 70s.

(I don't teach Kaju. I refer anyone to Dean Goldade in Austin and any number of guys on
the west coast of the USA I know)
