Back in the late 1980s or early 1990s I had an idea for the ideal practical MA/CQC magainze.
The writers would be people from various systems who took a practical approach as well as writers on firearms and tactics, maybe some useful survival info, and maybe a little bit of history. No tournament results, no endless articles on MA celebrities, no product reviews, etc.
In 2002 I bought the Knife level 1-6 videos and got a free subscription to Hock's magazine and it was the closest thing to what I was looking for. Later Hock put up the back issues to download for free.
IMO Black Belt still has a place, but like I said it is more for people looking to take up MA or kids who are trying to get something while they stry to convince their parents to sign them up at the local dojo.
IMO the magazine market's days are numbered. Much of what I used to buy magazines for is available on online forums for free, and forums often are more up to date, have better quality info, and are more interactive. People can write articles for years and not be questioned, or not have the letters questioning them printed, but a person who writes a post is often questioned the same day.
