I actually have a square from the original. It was presented to use by a 101st reenactment team on behalf of my dad's WWII 101st D-Jump.

Wasn't that a scene from the movie "The Longest Day" I believe the actor was the now departed Red Buttons

I saw this on CNN- the golden knights cute got caught and it shows how he stuck his hand out and wrapped around the pole-he made it look so easy-WW

I don't remember who the actor was, but I do remember a small memorial to him at the 82d Airborne Museum on Ft. Bragg.  Poor bastard, hopefully the Golden Knight was thinking to himself "At least this wasn't combat!"

Yep, Red Buttons. They told us the priest kept the parachute and the church had it all those years but I forgot how they got it.

They came to Gainesville  about 2 months after dad died to do a jump reenactment  at the local airport. One of the jumper came into the local restaurant wearing his WWII 101st jacket and the ol man spotted him and they got to talking. That prompted them coming to Gainesville. At that time there were a couple others from the area who jumped during D-day.
