Jack Reacher = Hock?
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:08:33 PM »

I'm currently reading Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow, a loan from one of my students. Hock, are you or are you not Jack Reacher? Or, rather, is the character based on you in any way?

 ;)

Ahhhh! HA!
In a word, No.

Though I was an investigator in the Army, I was NO WHERE near as cool as Reacher and the unit was no where near as cool as his old unit. Like comparing TVs NCIS with the real NCIS.

I tried to read some Reacher books and never could finish one. But I know they are VERY popular. Just not my cup of whiskey. Can't say why. I am not fan of any of the bestselling fiction books. Which is odd and not good for me. And no reflection on these books. I especially get bored with all these "spy and terrorism" books. I don't know why, just do.

One of my good friends is reading Michael Connelly books (the Blood Works guy) and he is hypnotized by them. Insists I try them. So...I guess I will try and start with the first Harry Bosch book.

I have been reading the the Sheriff Bill Gastner Books

About an overweight, 69 year old sheriff and then undersheriff in New Mexico. Really good writing and Havill captures the county LEO life to a T. I am working my way through all the books.

I'm only about a quarter of the way through, with 400ish pages. The book opens with a boom, then slows to a crawl. Not much has happened, with Reacher running around on public transportation gathering intel. Every other page, he's in a diner talking to somebody. Makes me hungry!

Some of these best-selling books would not quality/make a single TV episode. Stretched out. Boring. That is why I do take a pass on those books. I look at most of them as boring TV episodes.
